Teeth whitening is very popular these days, as it can brighten the patient’s smile up to 10 shades with a single whitening treatment. According to the British Dental Association , teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure throughout the Uk, including Lincoln and Louth.
Professional tooth whitening services can be performed safely at our private dental practice in Market Rasen. We offer teeth whitening of the highest standards, as we only use the leading manufacturers in the teeth whitening industry. In comparison to over-the-counter teeth whitening products, professional teeth whitening procedures offer safer and better results.
At You Smile Dental Care, we have available the following Teeth Whitening treatments.
Teeth Whitening in Practice
The quickest, easiest way to achieve a bright smile, is our in-practice teeth whitening treatment with the Phillips Zoom newest WhiteSpeed lamp. Zoom is the number one patient requested professional chairside teeth whitening treatment, as over 4 million patients have used Zoom to whiten their teeth.
The Zoom whitening system is considered by most private dentists better than laser teeth whitening. Unfortunately these days many advertisements try to mislead the public by offering the Zoom lamp therapy and calling it ‘laser teeth whitening’ while in fact it is not a laser but a special UV lamp. This misinformation has lead a lot of patients reviewing the procedure to name it as ‘laser whitening treatment’ by mistake. At You Smile Dental Care we offer the original Zoom chair-side method and explain to you the difference between the UV lamp and laser teeth whitening, which we do not offer as it has a lesser result and a higher cost.
How it works:
- Your dentist will ensure your gums are protected with a special covering during the procedure.
- A pH booster swab will be applied to your teeth, followed by our unique EU Compliant Zoom gel formula.
- The gel is activated using the WhiteSpeed lamp to break down stains.
- After 4x15 minute sessions the treatment is concluded and you will see visible results.
Best recommended for:
Patients very busy to use home teeth whitening kit, patients that visit our area near Lincoln or Louth just for a short time or for those that cannot tolerate impressions or wearing trays and want the fastest dentist whitening possible.
Teeth Whitening at Home
There are two leading products to use at home to whiten your teeth, the Enlighten teeth whitening and the Boutique teeth whitening. Both companies make a kit to be used during the day and a different kit to be used during the night. Enlighten gel is manufactured in USA and Germany. Boutique gel is manufactured in China and Canada. Boutique whitening is known for being more cost effective. Enlighten has been more years in the market but has twice the cost. At You Smile dental practice the dentist will help you decide which treatment is right for you, based on your lifestyle, shade expectations and sensitivity levels.
Day Home Teeth Whitening
We recommend the Boutique Day teeth whitening method or the Enlighten Day teeth whitening method (both use Hydrogen Peroxide 6%).
Treatment: On the first appointment we will take impressions to manufacture your personal whitening trays. After 2 weeks a second appointment is needed to polish your teeth with the Airflow and deliver your trays, bleaching gel, instructions and aftercare. Optional 3rd appointment for after photos or support is offered free of charge.
Shade results: Optimal results (up to 10 shades) within 10-21 days.
Wearing time: 1 hour every day for the duration of the treatment.
Best recommended for:
Patients with high sensitivity levels or that cannot tolerate trays in the mouth while sleeping, for those that want to have a black coffee immediately when they wake up and so the night method would not be recommended.
Night Home Teeth Whitening
We recommend the Boutique Night teeth whitening method or the Enlighten Night teeth whitening method (both use Carbamide Peroxide 10%-16%).
Wearing time: 5-8 hours overnight while sleeping every day for the duration of the treatment.
Best recommended for:
Patients without much sensitivity, for those with hectic day schedules that are unable to wear trays during the day but have no problem sleeping with them overnight, for those wearing retainers in the night and prefer to just put the gel in their retainers instead, for patients with severe discoloration from antibiotics that need extended whitening treatment for months.
Combined Teeth whitening Treatment
If you want the maximum results from your teeth whitening treatment we recommend the combined method, which starts by having your teeth whitened first in the practice with our chair-side Zoom method and then to continue with home teeth whitening, using one of the Boutique whitening kits.
Treatment
First appointment: (30 minutes): We take impressions after a thorough scale and polish and stain removal with the Airflow polish.
Second appointment: (1.5 hours): In-Practice Zoom whitening treatment as described above. Only now at the end of the session we will give you one of the Boutique teeth whitening systems to continue whitening for 2-3 weeks at home, either during the day or during the night, according to your preference.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I suitable for Teeth Whitening?
You may be a candidate for professional teeth whitening if you are experiencing tooth or teeth discolouration, but otherwise have healthy teeth and healthy gums. Schedule a free consultation with the dentist at our dental practice in Market Rasen, to find out if you qualify for our safe teeth whitening treatment.
Alternatively just send to us your concerns by e-mail or a message through our website. Rest assured that our lead cosmetic dentist will reply to you in just a few days with proper advise.
For some patients, such as those who are under the age of 18, pregnant or breast-feeding, is recommended that they postponed their desire for professional teeth whitening.
Which are the most common complications of teeth whitening?
The only worry when performing teeth whitening is temporary sensitivity of the teeth and gum. Your teeth and gum might become quite a bit sensitive during treatment. However, the good news is that regardless of how much sensitive your teeth will become, the problem will always cease completely once treatment is finished, maybe a few days after at the most. The sensitivity caused by whitening gels is only temporary.
Not everybody having teeth whitening will experience sensitivity. For most people this will not be a problem at all, but only when they are having their teeth whitened by a reliable professional that uses the correct prescription regarding bleaching agents and their concentration in he gels.
At You Smile Dental Practice we deal with your sensitivity responsibly by assessing your sensitivity before your treatment and then making adaptations to the concentration of the gel and the duration of the treatment, and so tailoring the prescription for your needs. Contrary to most providers of teeth whitening treatments that will just give you a box of gels and whatever happens, at You Smile Dental Care the dentist will follow your journey to a whiter smile every step of the way. Our trained staff will support you with plenty of tips on how to minimize discomfort, supply you with desensitizing products or samples and amending of your whitening prescription if necessary.
How much will my teeth whiten?
It is important to understand that everybody’s teeth will have a different response to teeth whitening treatment. Some people will have a better result than others, as their teeth respond better to the whitening gel. What remains a fact is that everyone will have an improvement of his initial shade and overall brightness of the smile.
You will experience a better result/change after you teeth whitening when:
- your teeth have a white/yellow contrast
- your teeth are sound and healthy, just stained
- you are younger
You will experience a lesser result/change in comparison when:
- your teeth have a white/grey contrast
- your teeth are have fillings and crowns or untreated tear and wear
- you are older
Also note that crowns, veneers and fillings will not bleach at all and may need to be changed after you had your teeth whitened, so that they will not show dark into your new great smile.
How long will my Teeth stay white? Is Teeth Whitening permanent?
Regardless of the various claims and advertisements that are trying to mislead you, the truth is that teeth whitening is not permanent. At first, after your teeth whitening treatment is finished, you will experience a small decrease in brightness after just 3 weeks. This is due to the fact that your teeth are left dehydrated immediately after treatment and are not truly as white. Your final shade will only settle in about 3 weeks later, when rehydration occurs. This final result will then start to fade away slowly over the next few months, as new staining will be deposited on the whitened enamel of your teeth.
The above facts are rather discouraging, however the good news is that you can maintain your newly whitened teeth if you follow the next two simple tips:
1. Do Top-Up applications of teeth whitening gel.
In order to prolong the results of your teeth whitening treatment, we recommend that you use whitening gel regularly. How often you should do that? This depends on how white you want your teeth to stay and how much of the staining substances you are consuming. Usually 1-2 applications every couple of months is enough for the ever lasting white smile. You can use the whitening trays we already made for you and just buy some top up gel syringes from reception. You do not need to see the dentist and so the maintaining cost is much less, approximately £100 per year would keep you a great result.
2. Reduce the consumption of staining foods and drinks and quit smoking.
The reason that teeth whitening does not last long for most people, is the discoloration of teeth caused by the staining substances in some foods and drinks and for smokers the nasty staining from tar and nicotine. To explain this simply, if you were to completely cut off staining substances from your diet, your teeth then would stay white for many years after your teeth whitening treatment. On the contrary, the more you consume staining substances in excess, the quicker your teeth whitening results will disappear, especially if you are not toping up with whitening gel.
As far as it concerns smokers that smoke from 5-20 cigarettes per day, teeth whitening would be really a waste of time and money, as the results would disappear in no time.
The usage of the following foods and drinks should be minimized in order to prolong the results of your teeth whitening:
- Coca Cola (we recommend complete cut)
- Coffee (we recommend only one cup per day, in the morning if desired, but not for 30mins after removing night whitening trays!)
- Tea (we recommend green tea instead)
- Red wine (healthy for the heart but staining and requires moderation)
- Dark chocolate (healthy if 85% rich in cocoa but requires moderation)
In conclusion, you need not be deprived of anything but make sure your habitual decisions are in alignment with your desired whitening results, and this will require disciplined use of top-up gel and moderation in using staining substances.
